Croatian swimmer Grgic nominated for EOC prize for best European young athlete

ZAGREB, Sept 25 (Hina) - Croatian swimmer Franko Grgic,16, who recently became a double world junior swimming champion, has been nominated as one of the five candidates for this year's EOC Piotr Nurowski Prize for Best European Young Athlete.

The Piotr Nurowski Prize for Best European Young Athlete was established in 2011 by the European Olympic Committees (EOC).

The prize-giving ceremony will be held in Warsaw on Thursday.

In late August, Grgic became the world junior champion in the 800-metre freestyle and in the 1500-metre freestyle at the 7th FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in Budapest. He also broke the old world junior record by more than 5 and a half seconds in the 1500-metre race.

The winner of the Piotr Nurowski Prize - voted by the participant national Olympic committees at EOC General Assembly out of the five nominees – receives the Trophy and a training scholarship.
