On Saturday, over a score of prosciutto producers will exhibit their products in Zagreb's main square.
Addressing the event, Agriculture Ministry's State Secretary Tugomir Majdak said that pig farming was one of the strategic agricultural branches.
Our aim is to boost primary production to ensure high-quality raw material for Croatian prosciutto, Majdak said.
The head of the Croatian Prosciutto Cluster, Darko Markotic, said the purpose of the fifth edition of Croatian Prosciutto Days was to promote the value of domestic products.
Five years ago, 250,000 prosciutto hams were produced in Croatia, and currently the annual production is 400,000.
This rise in production has been made possible owing to large investments and upgraded production facilities, Markotic said.
The portion of domestic raw material in those final products has risen from 10% to 50% over the past 10 years, he added.
Consumption of prosciutto has increased by 50% over the past five years.
