Germans' demand for Croatian destinations on steady rise

ZAGREB, Feb 22 (Hina) - Bookings for Croatia's destinations in some regions of Bavaria have been rising and some statistics show a 30% increase year-on-year, according to the preliminary information from the "f.re.e." fair for leisure and travel, which opened in Munich on Wednesday and runs through Sunday.

Over 1,200 exhibitors from 60 countries are taking part in the fair, and Croatia is being promoted by some 30 exhibitors, including the Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ).

On Wednesday, Croatian Tourism Minister Gari Cappelli held talks with representatives leading German tour operators -- Thomas Cook, DER Touristik Koln, FTI, Schauinsland, ID Riva, Reisewelt, Misir Sonnenreisen and Novasol, and they informed him of a steady rise in the demand for Croatian destinations.

After the talks, Minister Cappelli expressed satisfaction with the trends on the German market and a two-digit rise in German bookings for Croatia's destinations.

The minister informed the tour operators of plans for opening some 50 new hotels in Croatia. He pledged assistance to travel agencies that will bring guests to the destinations in the interior of the country and also in off-seasons.

One of reasons for great interest among Bavarians in spending holidays in Croatia is that they can arrive there by car and rent houses as an alternative to hotels.

In 2016, 2.3 million Germans arrived in Croatia for holidays, a 7.2% rise year-on-year, and made 17 million overnight stays, a rise by 8.3%.
