Tourism ministry launches new projects, plans legislative amendments

ZAGREB, Jan 29 (Hina) - Croatia's Tourism Ministry has initiated several new projects this year and is preparing amendments to tourism-related laws, Minister Gari Cappelli said in an interview with Hina.

In cooperation with the Croatian Tourism Board (HTZ), the ministry is making a turnaround in the promotion of Croatia's tourist trade.

Commenting on current bookings for Croatian destinations for 2017, the minister said they had risen by 3-5 percent compared to the corresponding period in 2016.

For instance, bookings in Great Britain have skyrocketed by 50%, while in France they have risen by 7%, the minister said.

"From 1 to 23 January, the number of overnight stays in Croatia stood at 370,000, which was 17% more than in January 2016. Foreign overnight stays rose by 25%, and I believe that these good trends will continue in this year's pre-season," the minister said.

Investments planned for the tourism sector in 2017 are estimated at 820 million euros, about 130 million more than in 2016. Of that amount, 511 million euros is to be invested by the private sector and the rest, namely 306 million euros, will come from the public sector, according to the minister.
