Croatians consume 26 litres of wine on average yearly

ZAGREB, Dec 18 (Hina) - Total domestic use of wine in Croatia in the 2015/16 marketing year amounted to 1.2 million hectolitres and a Croatian citizen consumed 26 litres of wine on average, the national statistical office said this past Friday.

Consumption of Protected Designation of Origin (P.D.O.) wines totalled 504,600 hectolitres, while consumption of varietal wines stood at 54,200 hectolitres. With 53%, other wines had the highest share in total domestic use of wine (slightly more than 639,000 hectolitres).

Wine production in 2015/16 totalled 992,000 hectolitres. Production of P.D.O. wines amounted to 529,100 hectolitres.  Varietal wines had a share of 5.7% and other wines 41% in total usable production.

Wine imports totalled 304,300 hectolitres, while exports stood at 44,100 hectolitres, including 38,800 hectolitres of P.D.O. wines.
