Sisak's rich industrial heritage to be revitalised

ZAGREB, Aug 17 (Hina) - A two-year, HRK 26.2 million project to revitalise the rich industrial and cultural heritage of Sisak for tourism purposes, including the so-called "Dutch House", was presented in that town some 50 kilometres southeast of Zagreb.

The project was approved by the Regional Development and EU Funds Ministry and it will be co-financed by the EU in the amount of HRK 20 million.

The 2,000 square-metre Dutch House, built in 1860 as a wheat warehouse, will be transformed to a facility housing a multimedia exhibition on industrial heritage, an art gallery, an exhibition of a collection of old audio devices, and a room for meetings and screenings.

The project also envisages, among other things, expanding the facility so that workshops can be organised and an archive could be set up there.

Sisak Mayor Kristina Ikic Banicek said that the same model would be used to seek money from EU funds for an archaeological heritage centre and for projects designed to transform existing unused buildings for cultural purposes.
