Number of building permits issued growing

ZAGREB, June 13 (Hina) - The State Bureau of Statistics (DZS) on Monday reported that 26.2% more building permits were issued in Croatia in April on the year.

Previous data from the DZS indicate that the number of building permits issues had grown on the year for four consecutive months until March this year when a drop of 4.8% was recorded. During the four months of growth the highest rate recorded was in February this year when their number had increased by 46%.

In April this year, 698 building permits were issued in Croatia which is an increase of 26.2% y-on-y..

Aggregate data for the first four months of this year of 2,291 permits issued indicate a growth of 17.1% compared with the same period last year.

The growth in the number of building permits issued with the absence of an increase in the foreseen value of proposed construction projects suggests a gradual wakening of interest in investment activities however the presumption of recovery of construction activities continues to be fragile, the Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK) has said.

Recovery of construction activity continues to be fragile and dependent on boosting economic growth, investment activities and the use of available funds from the European Union, HGK said.

Of the building permits issued in April, 80% were for the construction of buildings and 20% for other structures such as roads, railways, pipelines, bridges and so on.

The most permits issued (449 or 64%) referred to new projects and (249 or 36%) referred to reconstruction, refurbishment, etc.
