3rd Biennale of Painting, "Exporting Gdansk" exhibition open in Zagreb

ZAGREB, Oct 30 (Hina) - The 3rd Biennale of Painting, featuring 38 works of the Croatian art scene in the last two years, and a travelling exhibition of Polish art called "Exporting Gdansk", opened on the premises of the Croatian Association of Artists (HDLU) in Zagreb on Thursday evening.
Culture Minister Berislav Sipus said that the HDLU had launched the Biennale of Painting in 2011 to acquaint the public with the work of generations actively shaping the art scene over a two-year period.

After featuring works by artists from Vienna and Berlin, this year the Biennale of Painting welcomes works by Polish artists from Gdansk.

Sipus said that talks had been held on organising a more comprehensive presentation of Polish art in a museum in Zagreb and that this should not take long to happen.

Polish Ambassador Maciej Szymanski expressed satisfaction that the exhibition of Polish art was an integral part of this year's event called "The Polish Autumn in Zagreb", designed to promote Polish culture, art and tradition.

The event features a dozen business, cultural and educational events, and this year's programme is dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the Polish theatre, anniversaries related to Stanislaw Witkiewicz and Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz (father and son), the 25th anniversary of the Polish Cultural Society in Zagreb and the 50th anniversary of the Polish language department at Zagreb University, said the ambassador.

The exhibition at the HDLU features works by artists Beata Ewa Bialecka, Daniel Cybulski, Krzysztof Gliszczynski, Katarzyna Jozefowicz, Andrzej Karmasz, Grzegorz Klaman, Dominik Lejman, Kamila Model, Hanna Nowicka, Agata Nowosielska, Anna Orbaczewska, Teresa Pagowska, Anna Reinert, Katarzyna Swinarska, Piotr Uklanski, Ania Witkowska, Adam Witkowski and Iwona Zajac.

Some of these artists arrived in Zagreb for the opening of the exhibition.
