Best Croatian high jumper wins silver at world championships

BEIJING, Aug 29 (Hina) - Croatia's Blanka Vlasic on Saturday won the silver medal in the women's high jump event, while the gold went to Russian Mariya Kuchina and the bronze to Anna Chicherova also from Russia, after all three athletes cleared 2.01 metres, with Kuchina having cleared all lower heights in her first attempts.
The silver medal was Vlasic's fourth medal won at world championships so far. She claimed the world title in Osaka in 2007 and in Berlin in 2009, and took the silver in Daegu in 2011.

At today's high-jump event, the other Croatian athlete, Ana Simic, ranked 9th, with 1.88.

Vlasic's silver is the second medal for Croatia from the ongoing championships in Beijing, after Sandra Perkovic also won the silver in the discus throw.
