Croatian university officials meet with Polish colleagues

KRAKOW, May 11 (Hina) - A two-day meeting of ten heads and deputy heads of Croatian universities with their Polish counterparts began in Krakow on Monday, the Croatian Embassy said.

The aim of the meeting organised by the Croatian Embassy and the honorary consul in Krakow is for Polish university officials to inform and advise their Croatian colleagues how best to absorb European Union funds earmarked for higher education and science.

Of the 860,000 residents in Krakow, 200,000 are students and one in five citizens attends one of 120 faculties and institutes. In the period between 2007 and 2013 the universities in Krakow absorbed more than 200 million euro and invested the funds to build new lecture halls, laboratories and research centres and to finance research projects.

During their stay, the Croatian university officials will visit some of the latest research facilities, including the Prometheus super computer, the largest in Poland and the thirtieth largest in the world.

Croatian Ambassador Andrea Bekic underscored that Croatia as the newest EU member dedicates great significance to advancing trade and scientific cooperation between these two friendly countries.
