The purpose of the event, which is being organised by the Croatian International Theatre Institute (ITI) centre, is to acquaint foreign theatricians with a selection of the best recent Croatian theatre productions in one place.
The main selector of the event's programme, Zeljka Turcinovic, said the idea was to invite theatre critics, festival selectors, theatre directors, theatrologists, translators and writers to see the performances and write about Croatia's theatre, invite Croatian theatre companies to festivals, translate Croatian texts and put them on their theatre repertoires.
The 'showcase' idea is not unknown in the world of theatre and such events are often organised in countries with small languages whose theatre productions are not well-known, such as Croatia, Turcinovic told Hina.
This year around twenty theatricians from Algeria, Austria, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Greece, China, Germany, Romania, Serbia, Turkey and Great Britain will attend the showcase.
The showcase will present performances by the Zagreb Dance Centre (ZPC), the Small Scene Theatre, the Zagreb Youth Theatre (ZKM), the Croatian National Theatre (HNK) and the &TD Theatre.
