Fraktura shortlisted for London Book Fair award as best international publisher

ZAGREB, March 22 (Hina) - The Croatian publisher Fraktura, which has a tradition of publishing quality works of fiction and non-fiction, has been shortlisted for the London Book Fair (LBF) award as the best international publisher.

"We are very proud that our publishing programme, which is focused on quality literature, both originally written in Croatian and translated into Croatian, has been internationally recognised and that we have been shortlisted in the most competitive category of that award in publishing," Fraktura's editor in chief, Seid Serdarevic, told Hina this past week.

The award, launched last year in recognition of publishers and agents for international excellence in the publishing industry, covers the breadth of the publishing industry, including university and scientific publishers, publishers for children and digital innovation. It is presented in 15 categories, including the International Literary Agent Award, the Award for Best Use of IP across Multiple Media Platforms, the International Literary Translation Initiative Award and the International Education Initiatives Award.

"The shortlist for the LBF International Excellence Awards 2015 spans the globe with companies from 21 countries being recognised from Philippines to Croatia, and Mexico to Taiwan," the LBF says on its website.

Fraktura is nominated for the Bookseller International Adult Trade Publisher Award, alongside the People's Literature Publishing House from China and India's Rupa Publications.

LBF director Jacks Thomas said: "These awards, now in their second year and designed to showcase innovation around the world, cover a fantastic breadth of ingenuity and creativity in the international arena. The ceremony promises to be a real treat at which we honour these amazing nominees and shout loudly about what a talented, resourceful and inspirational industry the book world is."

Richard Mollet, chief executive of the UK Publishers Association, said: "This shortlist should leave no one in any doubt as to the exciting developments occurring in publishing around the world. It highlights the amazing innovation taking place as well as the way in which publishers are pushing their traditional boundaries, moving into apps, video games and other forms of multimedia."

This year's London Book Fair takes place on April 14-16. The awards will be presented on the first day of the fair at a gala evening at the Olympia London Conference Centre.
