Minister Ostojic handed the vehicles over at the Police Academy and the vehicles will be distributed to 11 police departments and border control units.
Underscoring that after Croatia had joined the EU its strategic aim was to enter the Schengen Area, Ostojic said that in that process Croatia was waiting for an evaluation of the bodies responsible for the implementation of Schengen acquis communautaire.
"These 50 vehicles, of a total of 240 that will be despatched in several stages until July this year, are part of technical assistance," he said, adding that the vehicles were obtained as part of the Schengen Facility Fund to facilitate the efficient operations of border police on the EU external border.
Ostojic explained that the total value of the project was 6,1 million euro and that at the conclusion of the project Croatian border police would have 130 vehicles at their disposal in addition to 60 utility vehicles, 50 off-road vehicles, and that the procurement of helicopters, planes, patrol boats and other technical equipment was in progress.
