The work on upgrading the airport should start in May and last until 2019, Transport Minister Sinisa Hajdas Doncic said.
The minister said that the European Commission had set the maximum amount for co-financing with public funds at EUR 145 million.
The government's decision refers to ensuring funding up to that amount, while Dubrovnik Airport will have to ensure the remaining 75 million euros, including VAT.
Most of the total funds needed for the project are expected to be provided by the EU, which has already given grants in the amount of HRK 40.5 million for the preparation of the project documentation.
Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic said that the funds to be invested in the Dubrovnik Airport project were almost of the same value as funds invested in the upgrading of Zagreb Airport and underlined the importance of the fact that most of the funding would be provided by the EU.
