'Istria from Rome to Austria' exhibition announced

PULA, Feb 4 (Hina) - An exhibition of Istria's cultural heritage called "Istria from Rome to Austria", conceived as a summary of the peninsula's art from the first traces of material culture to the end of the Baroque, will be staged in Zagreb's Klovicevi Dvori gallery in March 2016 and after that in Pula and abroad, reporters were told in Pula on Wednesday.

Istria County Prefect Valter Flego and the exhibition's director, Jasmina Bavoljak, today signed a letter of intent based on which the Culture Ministry and Istria County will finance the project with HRK 700,000 each over three years.

"This project is extremely important for Istria and has been recognised and endorsed by the Culture Ministry," Flego said, adding that after Zagreb and Pula, the plan was for the exhibition to be staged in every country with historical ties to the northern Adriatic peninsula of Istria.

"We must finish this exhibition by the end of this year so that next year, with EU funds, we can show it in other European countries," said Bavoljak.

Mladen Lucic, one of the exhibition's initiators, said this unique project included a four-language catalogue that would interest partners in Italy and Austria.
