ZAGREB, Jan 18 (Hina) - Zagreb is on the right track in terms of tourism, the director of the capital's tourist board, Martina Bienenfeld, told reporters this past Thursday, presenting the city's record tourism results last year, with both arrivals and bed/nighs 13 percent higher than in 2013.

Zagreb logged nearly 911,000 arrivals in 2014 and nearly 1.6 million bed/nights, ranking seventh among Croatia's towns and once again proving to be a relevant year-round destination.

The European Best Destinations portal nominated it for best destination of 2015 among 20 cities. Last year, tourists voting on the website ranked Zagreb second. Voting for this year is open between January 10 and February 20.

Zagreb logged 200,000 bed/nights in August 2014, the highest such number recorded in a summer month. There were more than 100,000 bed/nights in December, up 21% on the year, mainly due to Advent in Zagreb, which Bienenfeld said was one of the most important annual events in the capital. Most tourists visiting Zagreb on that occasion came from Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Slovenia.

Germans accounted for the most bed/nights in Zagreb in 2014 and were second in arrivals. Tourists from South Korea generated the most arrivals, up 220% from 2013, but were third in bed/nights.
