"If we all want collective masochism, then let's suffer them for two more years, but I think the election will come much sooner. I think it would be appropriate because the government hasn't done anything. They indebted us for another EUR 200 million," he told reporters, adding that the government had economically devastated the country.
Refuting a media headline that the HDZ was ready for a coalition with the left wing, Karamarko said a coalition would be possible in the distant future if the Croatian left wing was like the one in Germany, patriotic and social democratic. He added that with Croatia's ruling Social Democratic Party, for which "we don't know if its social democracy or Yugo-nostalgia, a coalition is out of the question."
Commenting on yesterday's decision by the Constitutional Court to revoke a government decision to a impose work obligation on striking hospital doctors, Karamarko said Health Minister Rajko Ostojic and Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic should resign.
"This is the fourth or fifth time that the government is in conflict with the Constitutional Court. That's quite enough for seriously asking themselves if it's time they left, if not for completely destroying the economy, then for this. This government is in conflict with the law."
Karamarko welcomed the HDSSB party's decision not to endorse constitutional amendments, saying that if it had not done so, the party would have betrayed vital Croatian interests.
The draft amendments would be disastrous for Croatia and the HDZ will soon explain what they were actually about, he said.
Asked about the possible extradition of former secret agent Josip Perkovic, wanted in Germany for the murder of a Croatian dissident in Munich in 1983, Karamarko said the law on the European Arrest Warrant must be activated on January 1 and that if the government tried to do something to prevent the extradition, it would not succeed. "Deceiving the European Union for the second time would be disastrous."
Karamarko was in Virovitica for a session of the HDZ presidency and main committee.
