FinMin says can't be satisfied without economic growth

TUHELJSKE TOPLICE, Dec 14 (Hina) - Finance Minister Slavko Linic said on Saturday he could not be satisfied because there had been no economic growth in the past two years, but added that the government would change that.

"It's difficult and it will be difficult, but in two more years we will manage to change that, although we could have and should have done it faster," he told reporters during a working meeting of the ruling Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Tuheljske Toplice.

It is evident that the problems in the economic sector have been piling up over the last 20 years and not just over the last five or six years of tough economic crisis in the world, Europe and Croatia, and this has to be dealt with, Linic said.

"We are working on that and making up models of how to deal with that, but we are not satisfied with the speed," he said, adding that it was necessary to employ people, boost production, exports and the offer on the domestic market. "That's a job the government will work on without interruptions."

Linic would not comment on criticisms of the government by the biggest opposition party, the HDZ, from yesterday's economic forum.

He said the government had a far more transparent programme and new programmes to reduce the deficit and boost economic growth, adding that citizens would see how effective it was in the next two years.
