Speaking to the press in Pula on behalf of the county assembly, Flego expressed disagreement with solutions to "push through the back door some sort of organisational structure that doesn't exist anywhere and isn't envisaged by the Croatian Constitution."
He said the proposal to divide the country into five planning areas was unnecessary and that it did not acknowledge the historical, cultural and economic aspects of Istria County.
The division of a state into five levels like this does not exist anywhere in Europe, this is a Croatian concoction with no purpose or goal, Flego said, objecting to "the state's meddling in the determination of the ownership structure of regional development agencies."
He announced that he and Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Prefect Zlatko Komadina would launch an initiative to "save the standard of the residents of central and northern Istria and Gorski Kotar."
