(Hina) - The owner of the Brodosplit shipyard in Split,
Tomislav Debeljak, has requested the Croatian Employment Service (HZZ)
to be given licences to hire 4,500 foreign workers, according to the
media, a move which has been met with criticism in light of the fact
that there are as many as 344,000 Croatian job-seekers registered with
the HZZ and that during the Brodosplit's shake-up, launched by the new
owner. the company has retained about 2,000 employees on its payroll
out of 3,400 workers in the dock before the restructuring.
