Leko, Raguz call for equality of Bosnian Croats

ZAGREB, Sept 16 (Hina) - Croatian Parliament Speaker Josip Leko and the president of the Bosnian Croat HDZ 1990 party and member of the Bosnian Parliament, Martin Raguz, are agreed that constitutional changes should ensure the equality of the Bosnian Croat people, the Croatian parliament said in a statement on Monday.

Leko received Raguz, who informed him about the HDZ 1990's positions ahead of a meeting of Bosnian political leaders with European Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fuele in Brussels on October 1. The meeting will address the model of constitutional changes which Bosnia and Herzegovina has to implement based on a European Court of Human Rights ruling to guarantee the political equality of all citizens.

Leko and Raguz were agreed that the constitutional changes should also ensure the equality of the Bosnian Croats, notably in the election of their representatives to political state bodies. In this respect, Raguz expects the understanding and support of Croatia and the entire European Union.

The two officials also discussed the geopolitical situation in the wake of Croatia's EU accession on July 1, agreeing that the arrival of the EU at the Bosnian border is an historic opportunity to step up its Euro-Atlantic integration.
