Italian regions divided on free employment of Croatians

ZAGREB, June 29 (Hina) - The Italian government has still not said whether it will seek a two-year moratorium on the free employment of Croatian workers after Croatia joins the European Union on July 1, representatives of Italian regions are divided on the issue, while the most influential unions are against the moratorium.

Representatives of Italian, Slovenian and Croatian unions met on Thursday, asking Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta not to impose the two-year moratorium. Only two regions, Veneto and Lombardy, have spoken in favour of the moratorium.

Responding to a query from Hina, the Italian Embassy said it had still not received a note from the relevant Italian bodies about possible restrictions on the employment of Croatians in Italy after Croatia's EU entry, and that it would release any information on the matter.
