RWE Energija announces affordable electricity prices

ZAGREB, June 7 (Hina) - The RWE Energija company plans to offer electricity to Croatian buyers who can expect competitive prices, a reliable delivery and a simple service, RWE representatives told reporters in Zagreb on Friday.

The company will offer electricity to households and the industry and is preparing to enter the mass consumption market, said its director, Zoran Milisa, but he would not say what reduction in price Croatian consumers could expect. He said companies which bought electricity from RWE Energija did so at prices lower from one to ten per cent than those offered by the state-owned power company HEP.

Milisa said the company planned to take over ten per cent of the Croatian market over the next three years based on its own production. Asked if this meant the company planned to build power plants in Croatia, he said the focus was on consumers and that own production referred to RWE plants abroad, where electricity was cheaper than when bought on the exchange.

Germany's RWE is an energy concern that has been active in Croatia since 1996, when it began building and managing the Plomin thermal power plant. It also took part in the construction and management of the wastewater treatment plant in Zagreb.

RWE Croatia CEO Karl Kraus said RWE reaffirmed through RWE Energija its plan for long term cooperation in Croatia and that it wanted to provide Croatian citizens with the same benefits in power supply as for its 16 million buyers in other European countries.
