Labour minister to represent govt. in conciliation with unions

ZAGREB, May 29 (Hina) - The government on Wednesday appointed Labour Minister Mirando Mrsic its representative in conciliation with some public sector unions which have announced a strike for June 5.

Speaking at a government session, Mrsic said an attempt would be made to agree on the preservation of the status of public sector workers, but that the government could not give back what it did not have.

The government today adopted a partnership strategy with the World Bank and its corporations in the 2014-17 period, when the Bank plans to invest US$ 1.4 billion in Croatia.

Finance Minister Slavko Linic said the World Bank usually did not finance projects in countries entering the European Union but that it was agreed during negotiations on the new strategy that it would stay in Croatia through project financing and consulting services.

The World Bank and its International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and International Finance Corporation (IFC) would participate in Croatia in programmes aimed at continuous fiscal consolidation, financing reform and budget expenditure projects. The IFC would invest in projects to boost private sector competitiveness. The Bank would also provide consulting and financial aid to increase Croatia's absorption of EU funds.

Linic said the Bank's Board of Directors was expected to adopt the strategy in late June, after which it would go into force.

Also today, the government sent to parliament a bill of amendments to the hospitality law to remove obstacles before the start of the peak tourist season, Tourism Minister Darko Lorencin said.

The government endorsed a bill to implement an EU regulation on green production and the marking of green goods.
