Josipovic attends Rotary's peace forum

OSIJEK, May 25 (Hina) - Croatian President Ivo Josipovic attended the Peace Forum in Osijek on Saturday, organised by Rotary District 1913 Croatia, alongside the most prominent Rotarians from around the world, business people and others.

An honorary member of the Rotary Club, Josipovic said in his address he was glad such an important event was taking place in Osijek and that this had outstanding significance at a time when Croatia was about to join the European Union.

He voiced hope that the whole Europe, which Croatia would also officially join as the 28th EU member, would be a true peace zone.

We want to contribute with our experience and positive positions so that our nearest neighbours, all Southeast European countries, become members of the big European family too, said Josipovic.

The forum was also addressed by Rotary International secretary-general John Hewko, Bosnian Council of Ministers Chairman Vjekoslav Bevanda, the director of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation's office for Croatia and Slovenia - Reinhard Wessel, Member of the European Parliament Bernd Posselt, and Regional Cooperation Council secretary-general Goran Svilanovic.

While in Osijek, Josipovic also visited the local Red Cross to attend a presentation of the "YES – Youth Energising Societies – From Simulation to Action" project, in which the partner countries will be Red Cross branches from Vienna, Tuzla, Novi Sad and Pecs. The aim is to encourage the public and state institutions to do more to prevent human trafficking as one of the biggest global problems.
