Croat People's Assembly for forming Croat federal unit in Bosnia

MOSTAR, April 6 (Hina) - About 500 deputies of the Croat People's Assembly (HNS) in Bosnia and Herzegovina adopted in Mostar on Saturday a declaration seeking a reorganisation of the country whereby the two existing entities would be replaced by a number of federal units, including at least one with a Croat majority.

The declaration calls for amending the constitution and the election law and for reorganising the country into three or more federal units in which all three peoples would be constituent.

The declaration also calls for declaring the HNS the supreme institution when it comes to the vital national interests of Bosnian Croats.

The HNS comprises ten Bosnian Croat political parties led by the HDZ BiH and the HDZ 1990.

Speaking to the press, HNS president Dragan Covic said that with this declaration Bosnian Croats were saying that Bosnia would not have a European or NATO path as long as the Croat people remained unequal under the constitution.

"We have to accept the reality that Croats must be equal with Serbs and Bosniaks. Without that, Bosnia and Herzegovina won't be normal and will head towards disintegration," he said.

A number of speakers at the meeting said the country was turning into a union of two peoples, with the Bosniak majority Federation entity and the Republika Srpska Serb entity.
