HDZ to announce candidate for Zagreb mayor on March 9

KRASIC, Feb 10 (Hina) - Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) president Tomislav Karamarko said in Krasic on Sunday the strongest opposition party would present its economic platform and announce its candidate for Zagreb mayor in the next two to three weeks.

He also said it was very likely that Damir Mihanovic would be appointed the party's chief treasurer. Mihanovic left the HDZ after being the first to talk publicly about the Fimi Media corruption case.

HDZ secretary-general Milijan Brkic said the candidate for Zagreb mayor would be officially announced on March 9.

After HDZ official Milan Kovac yesterday invited the party members who had left or been ousted from the party to come back, Karamarko told the press today the decision on their return would be made by the party's court of honour.

Asked if he was inviting Ivic Pasalic back to the party as Kovac did yesterday, Karamarko said, "No, I'm not inviting anyone. There's the court of honour that will decide about everything."

He reiterated that the party "is rising" and that it had 7,000 or 8,000 new members. He said up to 1,500 people attended the party's recent rallies in Slavonski Brod, Sibenik and Imotski, and that this indicated "a return to the spirit of the 90s." He said the HDZ was not returning to the past but to the spirit and the emotion born when one's country was beset by problems.
