Croatian foreign minister satisfied with PM's visit to Serbia

ZAGREB, Jan 17 (Hina) - Croatian Foreign Minister Vesna Pusic said on Thursday she was satisfied with Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic's visit to Serbia on Wednesday, describing it as a good, rational and useful step forward in relations with Serbia and taking responsibility for leading the region.

Speaking to the press, Pusic said she expected to meet again with Serbian Foreign Minister Ivan Mrkic, since they agreed to talk in February about cross-border projects that could be eligible for European funding.

Pusic reiterated that she expected Croatia to join the European Union on July 1 but said Brussels and Zagreb were worried about the fact that Slovenia had still not begun the ratification of Croatia's accession treaty.

"In Brussels it was said that all obligations were being met on time and that a positive last progress report was to be expected. What worries us and them is the fact that Slovenia still hasn't begun the ratification process."

Pusic said Croatia remained willing to keep seeking a joint solution to the Ljubljanska Banka issue, which Croatian and Slovenian experts are due to discuss by the end of the month. She is hopeful that some progress will be achieved at that meeting and that Croatia will manage to separate this issue from the accession treaty ratification.
