Most traders on Wednesday reported that business was slow, though enquiry from spinners increased for price testing purposes. Some sellers indicated that they would be willing to consider bids at slightly lower levels though the continuation of a firm price basis at many origins outside the United States was expected to discourgae heavy price discounting by the trade. The decline of New York meanwhile diverted some buyers' attention to US cottons, for which offers now appear competitive. 121128 MET nov 97
