Traders said copper market sentiment was now "on the turn" after Tuesday's late declines and the followthrough seen early today. "Most of the damage was done overnight. There was a little bit of profit-taking (purchases) in the rings, but I still see it going to $2,200," one trader said. Since concluding Tuesday's kerb at $2,368, prices have been buffeted by waves of fund sales, speculative liquidation, and option-related hedge selling. The decline - modest at first - has reflected rising stocks and expectations that further inventory increases will be large. LME warehouse stocks are expected to be swelled by deliveries into the U.S., Europe and the Far East in coming weeks, they said. The only mitigating factor in the short-term is the July tightness. although spreads covering July were softer, with July/August at $84 against $99 on Tuesday, some shorts have been rolled forward into August, other traders noted. Last three months trade was at $2,271 a tonne, which was some $20 below the late Tuesday close. Activity in the rest of the metals, including aluminium, was relatively low-key, and some metals started to edge back into the plus column once the early copper-related mark-down did not result in actual selling. "Aluminium does not look good, and people do want to short it now, but the others do not really justify a sell-off," another trader said. Aluminium did manage to stave off a test of expected sell-stops in the $1,530/40 area by rebounding from $1,545, although final trade was at $1,563, still down $2. Traders said a 950-tonne stock fall was smaller than some recent declines, which also underlined negative sentiment. On Thursday, the IPAI releases producer inventory data for May, although this may equally do little for the market. "At the moment, nobody is paying any attention to stocks. Consumers are not buying, and the funds are looking to sell," a trader said. Zinc, which only last week was at 6-3/4 year highs near $1,500, initially buckled, but managed to climb back above $1,450 - an intermediate chart level. Last trade was at $1,456, still down $4. Lead similarly fell away in early trading before recovering to regain the $650 area. Prices were just $1 higher at the end of the kerb at $650. Nickel, which received a brief boost from Tuesday's Falconbridge strike vote, reverted to the downside on Wednesday, depressed by rising stocks and reasonable Russian shipments. Three months closed the kerb at $6,890, down $45 from Tuesday. Tin managed to avert a re-test of the $5,490 2-1/4 year lows hit last week by again picking up some trade support just above $5,500. Final trade was at $5,530, just $10 lower. Alloy was marked down with primary, and was quoted at $1,415/25 a tonne, down some $12 from yesterday. _________________________________________________________________ STANJE LME ZALIHA NA DAN - 09.07.1997. - po pojedinim skladištima _________________________________________________________________ LME Stock Locations - Jul 09 ++ COPPER WIRE BARS + ANTWERP 50 HAMBURG 25 ++ COPPER CATHODES + ANTWERP 525 DUNKIRK 50 BREMEN 700 HAMBURG 3225 ROTTERDAM 6400 LEGHORN 1000 TRIESTE 8250 BARCELONA 175 BILBAO 12150 GOTHENBURG 12025 HELSINBORG 5700 LIVERPOOL 850 LONG BEACH 53225 LOS ANGELE 5975 ST LOUIS 450 SINGAPORE 23550 ++ TIN ++ ANTWERP 10 HAMBURG 125 ROTTERDAM 6295 GENOA 265 BILBAO 40 HULL 265 LIVERPOOL 4555 BALTIMORE 190 LONG BEACH 5 LOS ANGELE 135 NEW HAVEN 30 SINGAPORE 6375 ++ LEAD + HAMBURG 300 ROTTERDAM 1975 GENOA 7275 BARCELONA 100 GOTHENBURG 12100 HELSINBORG 80550 GOOLE 1175 HULL 750 LIVERPOOL 1850 SUNDERLAND 75 DETROIT 750 LONG BEACH 3675 SINGAPORE 6375 ++ NICKEL + ANTWERP 1608 ROTTERDAM 38316 GENOA 288 TRIESTE 48 GOTHENBURG 12060 LIVERPOOL 72 ++ ZINC + ANTWERP 22525 BREMEN 500 HAMBURG 350 ROTTERDAM 103800 PIRAEUS 275 GENOA 16950 TRIESTE 117525 BARCELONA 13050 BILBAO 13175 GOTHENBURG 10375 HELSINBORG 62825 LIVERPOOL 12725 CHICAGO 200 ST LOUIS 12475 SINGAPORE 33175 ++ NICKEL + ANTWERP 1608 ROTTERDAM 38316 GENOA 288 TRIESTE 48 GOTHENBURG 12060 LIVERPOOL 72 NEW HAVEN 120 SINGAPORE 1368 ++ ALUMINIUM ++ ANTWERP 550 ROTTERDAM 18400 TRIESTE 375 BILBAO 150 GOTHENBURG 41550 HELSINBORG 120400 AVONMOUTH 27600 HULL 120400 LIVERPOOL 180400 NEWCASTLE 96575 SUNDERLAND 45450 DETROIT 50 HAKATA 50 MOJI 50 SINGAPORE 6625 ++ ALUMINIUM ALLOY ++ ANTWERP 4480 DUNKIRK 380 DUISBERG 520 HAMBURG 180 ROTTERDAM 1380 BRESCIA 1080 GENOA 6020 TRIESTE 3380 BARCELONA 80 BILBAO 1500 GOTHENBURG 220 HULL 600 LIVERPOOL 23260 CHICAGO 3000 DETROIT 860 LONG BEACH 9260 ST LOUIS 1800 SINGAPORE 60 _________________________________________________________________ STANJE LME ZALIHA NA DAN 09. srpnja 1997. količine su u tonama _________________________________________________________________ COPPER 134325 UP 975 TIN 11915 DOWN 35 LEAD 116950 DOWN 175 ZINC 419925 UP 125 ALUMINIUM 658625 DOWN 950 NICKEL 53880 UP 492 AL.ALLOY 58060 DOWN 80 STOCK IN OUT COPPER wire bars 75 0 0 COPPER cathodes 134250 1450 475 TIN 11915 85 120 LEAD 116950 0 175 ZINC 419925 1200 1075 NICKEL briquettes 6918 228 0 NICKEL cathodes 46926 330 66 NICKEL pellets 36 0 0 STOCK IN OUT ALUMINIUM ingots 280900 0 675 ALUMINIUM T-bars 225650 0 250 ALUMINIUM sows 152075 0 25 AL.ALLOY D12S/JIS 400 0 0 AL.ALLOY 226/DIN 31920 0 60 AL.ALLOY A380.1 25740 0 20 LME - warehouse stock movements LONDON, Jul 09 - Latest LME warehouse stock changes are: copper up 975, tin down 35, lead down 175, zinc up 125, aluminium down 950, nickel up 492, aluminium alloy down 80 FRANCUSKA BURZA - 08. srpnja 1997.
