Flagship copper settled between July strikes, though late morning speculative selling knocked three months delivery to $2,383, a $10 loss. Traders said the selling followed another LME stocks rise and the market's inability to break above $2,400 in early trading. Despite the fall the nearby spreads remained tight. Cash to three months backwardation was last indicated at $125/$130 after earlier dipping to $120/$125. Traders said the tight nearbys should offer support, though downtrending charts may see an attack on $2,375 support in later trading. A breach of this level could see a fall to $2,350. Elsewhere, zinc held near to 6-3/4 year highs amid falling stocks and physical demand. Prices earlier hit $1,455 on fund buying only to be capped by trade selling. It was last at $1,449, up $12/ Aluminium was attempting to build a base above $1,600, though the fall in copper saw prices retreat from resistance around $1,615 to $1,607, a $4 gain. Nickel was quiet and last at $6,860, down $70. Traders said a stocks rise helped to dent sentiment. They beleived that Russian material was delivered into LME Gothenburg warehouses. Tin dipped $10 to $5,520 after earlier tradebuying dried up. Lead was last at $630, down $6, while alloy was $1,455/65, against $1,450/$55.
