Merino fleece was mainly cheaper, with 19/20/24 microns 0.5 percent cheaper, 21/22/23m slightly cheaper, and 25m unchanged. Merino skirtings of 19m were slightly dearer, with 20/21/22m generally unchanged, it said. In crossbreds, 26m was unchanged, 27m 0.5 percent cheaper, 28m slightly dearer, 29/30m one percent cheaper and 31m one percent dearer. WI said Japanese interests including China were principal buyers with strong support from Western Europe and Taiwan. Of the 25,959 bales offered, 12 percent were passed in. Sales continue next week in Sydney, Melbourne and Fremantle with about 109,500 bales to be offered. _________________________________________________________________ Bradford - cijene vune - 20. ožujka 1997. cijene u penijima/kg _________________________________________________________________ MERINO CROSSBRED 70s SUPER 526 58s SUPER 387 66s SUPER 484 58s BLENDED 368 64s SUPER 429 56s SUPER 347 64s BLENDED 416 54s CARDED 330 60s SUPER 404 50s CARDED 325 60s BLENDED 382 58s ENGLISH 273 56s ENGLISH 261 50s ENGLISH 258 Bradford wool - Price ideas soften, sellers wary LONDON, March 20 (Reuter) - Potential sellers cited occasional mention of prospects to take on UK home market business but added that prices offered were poor and often refused. With Australia closing for the Easter recess, with prices scarcely managing to hold steady, the background for new business was not very encouraging. Last week's quoted increases, mainly on strength in the Australian dollar, have been maintained but only just. Traders quoting higher prices earlier this week do not seem to be holding them quite so firmly now. The combing sector is keeping very busy in Europe and throughout the world, despite talk of over capacity and inability to show profit. Emphasis is still on the finer merino sector where demand and rising prices have helped to put more pressure on supplies and the machinery involved. Wool International sold more than 17,000 bales of stockpile wool last week, a good total, and helpful to the market. Stockpile sales over the Easter recess should provide some guidance on new business. 211055 MET mar 97
