Ruling coalition has good programme, parliament speaker says

ZAGREB, Nov 25 (Hina) - Parliament Speaker Josip Leko said on Sunday that regardless of the Croatian People's Party's objections to the imposition of a real estate tax, the ruling coalition had a good programme that should be carried out in order to rescue the country.

Speaking in a Croatian Television talk show, Leko said he supported tax changes but if they did not raise the tax burden.

Leko said he was optimistic about GDP growth next year and that the optimism was founded "because state investment programmes have been prepared, we are putting the state and the tax system in order, we are reducing contributions."

He is confident that the measures that have been undertaken will attract foreign investors and that next year's macroeconomic indicators will show that Croatia has changed course.

Leko said that when the ruling coalition was preparing to come to power, it was counting on ready projects that would attract foreign capital, but it was not so.

Asked if he expected Serb refugees to return in greater numbers, Leko said he did, also because Croatia's standard would grow and it would be attractive to those who left for whatever reason.

We must work on reconciliation and there will be no dispute over that, the process is unstoppable despite the oscillating relations between Croatia and Serbia, he said.
