ZAGREB, Nov 16
(Hina) - Following the acquittal of Generals Ante
Gotovina and Mladen Markac by the UN war crimes tribunal at The Hague,
the Zagreb-based nongovernmental organisation "Documenta - The Centre
for Dealing with the Past" says when it comes to families of the
victims in the 1995 Operation Storm, it cannot be allowed that "crimes
committed in the military and police operation Storm remain a tragedy
without an epilogue."
During the operation, tens of civilians were killed, thousands of houses and other structures were burnt, and a half of those who fled Croatia then are awaiting the return to their pre-war homes, the Documenta's co-ordinator Eugen Jakovcic told Hina on Friday.
He said that perpetrators of those crimes must be brought to justice, and added that it was now on the Croatian judiciary to prosecute those crimes.
