Milan Zver submits presidential candidacy

LJUBLJANA, Oct 10 (Hina) - Former Slovenian Education Minister Milan Zver on Wednesday officially confirmed he would run in Slovenia's presidential election on November 11 by submitting to the State Election Commission 30 statements signed by MPs who support his candidacy.

The 50-year-old received the support of the two ruling centre-right parties - the Slovenian Democratic Party led by Prime Minister Janez Janzsa and the Christian Democrat New Slovenia party.

Zver is the second official presidential candidate. Incumbent President Danilo Tuerk submitted to the State Election Commission a month ago a list of 13,000 citizen signatures since he is running as a nonparty candidate.

Former PM Borut Pahor is expected to submit his candidacy next week.

The deadline for submitting the candidacies is next Wednesday.

Zver said he unreservedly supported structural reforms and the austerity measures moved by the incumbent government.
