Bosnia preparing for Croatia's EU accession

SARAJEVO, Sept 18 (Hina) - The Bosnian Council of Ministers on Tuesday adopted a European Commission proposal on the transit of goods of plant and animal origin through the southern Croatian seaport of Ploce, which paves the way for the legal procedure of Bosnia and Herzegovina's preparation for Croatia's accession to the European Union, scheduled for July 1, 2013.

The Council entrusted relevant state bodies to make a list of goods that can be transported through Ploce, and asked that Bosnian representatives be fully involved in the drawing up of a feasibility study regarding a corridor through Neum, Bosnia.

The Council sent to the state parliament and presidency a proposal to consider all aspects and possibilities of resuming the process of ratification of the 1999 Croatian-Bosnian border agreement.

These conclusions were adopted following a meeting in Brussels on September 10 at which representatives of Bosnia, Croatia and the European Commission discussed border management.

A report on the meeting will be delivered to the bodies involved in the integrated management of the Bosnian border, and special negotiating teams will be set up if necessary. The report says Croatia has expressed willingness to build a third inspection border crossing when conditions have been met.
