Hague tribunal's prosecution wants life in prison for Tolimir

THE HAGUE, Aug 21 (Hina) - The Hague tribunal's prosecution requested lifetime imprisonment on Tuesday for former Bosnian Serb General Zdravko Tolimir, on trial for genocide because of his role in the Srebrenica massacre in 1995, Agence France-Presse reported.

The 63-year-old, the right-hand man of Bosnian Serb wartime military leader Ratko Mladic, was accused of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.

He was indicted of participating, with his superior Mladic, in the planning of the genocide of nearly 8,000 Muslims in Srebrenica in 1995, the worst atrocity in Europe since WW2.

Tolimir was arrested in Bosnia and Herzegovina on 31 May 2007. He pleaded not guilty and is representing himself. His trial began on 26 February 2010.
