Losinj follows global tourist trends, has UNWTO support, official says

ZAGREB, May 20 (Hina) - The town of Mali Losinj and the whole Losinj archipelago has a big tourist potential based on a paradisiacal nature, positive energy and cooperation of everyone in the community and given that it also follows other global trends in tourism, it is an excellent example to all small destinations in the world and enjoys the full support of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), UNWTO director for associate members, Javier Blanco, has said.

He visited the Losinj island and Croatia earlier this month, holding talks with the assistant tourism minister and local officials.

Blanco was shown a project for the sustainable development of tourism in Mali Losinj, saying it followed global trends in which individualised service was increasingly present in tourism.

He said the project, drawn up by the Zagreb Tourism Institute, could be compared to the best sustainable tourism plans in the world and that it was aligned with destination development and UNWTO principles. He said it was important to minimise the negative aspects of tourism and develop the positive ones, while strongly encouraging the strengthening of partnership in a destination.

Blanco said the northern Adriatic island of Losinj was entering a new stage of development, the demanding implementation of elements of sustainable tourism, adding that he did not doubt that Losinj would succeed given its large number of women and young people engaged in tourism.
