Djuro Popijac of the HDZ said that he did not believe that the agency would meet its goals, as stipulated in the bill.
Popijac believes that the goals such as investment stimulation and promotion of Croatia as a favourable destination for investment, could be achieved by huge commitment and hard work of the responsible ministry but he doubted that Croatia could improve its competitiveness after the current government had increased the Value Added Tax rate and income tax.
"This agency cannot offset such negative effects," Popijac told Parliament.
Drazen Djurovic of the HDSSB criticised the government for resorting to setting up agencies as the first step in dealing with problems.
Opposition members of Parliament said that 18 million kuna was too high an amount for the establishment of the agency.
