He made the statement in response to the question asked during Question Time by Jovo Vukovic of the Independent Democratic Serb Party (SDSS) about what the police were doing about frequent cases of violence against students of Serb ethnicity.
Vukovic cited a case in Gracac, where after a sporting event in the local secondary school Serb students were verbally abused along ethnic lines. He also mentioned an incident that had occurred on Orthodox Good Friday at the secondary school run by Serb Orthodox Church in Zagreb, where students were verbally abused and pelted with eggs, and an incident that occurred in a bus in Zagreb on Tuesday when a student ended up in the casualty ward.
Vukovic said that the police had promised protection, but that none had been given, and that no arrests had been made.
Ostojic said that the police were investigating the incidents and looking for the perpetrators. He stressed that the police were dedicating special attention to such cases and had announced a meeting with the head of the Zagreb school on April 20 to discuss peer violence.
"With joint efforts we will do all we can to prevent such situations. That's the priority for the Croatian police," Ostojic said.
