Higher VAT results in higher consumer prices in March

ZAGREB, April 16 (Hina) - The prices of goods and services for personal consumption in March 2012, measured by the consumer price index, were up 1.5 per cent on the month on average, considerably affected by the changes in the value added tax rate, the Croatian Bureau of Statistics said on Monday.

Year on year, the increase was two per cent.

The 1.5 per cent increase this March was the highest month on month increase since 2000.

The last time the monthly inflation rate was above one per cent was in January 2009, when it was 1.2 per cent when compared to the previous month. Since 2000, the highest month on month increase, of 1.4 per cent, was recorded in April 2001.

The annual inflation rate in March 2012, of two per cent, was 0.7 percentage points higher than in February, when the annual inflation rate was 1.3 per cent.
