Addressing reporters after a brief closed-door meeting, Begich said he was pleased to be able to see for himself that US money was being successfully spent on peace missions and cooperation within NATO.
Foley said he was glad that NATO had invited Croatia to join it because in the last three years Croatia had proved itself as a very good member. He said he was also glad that Senator Begich was visiting the Croatian Armed Forces because he had helped Croatia receive $2.5 million for the destruction of 3,700 tonnes of outdated weapons and ammunition and for the construction of storage facilities for such weapons.
The US officials also visited a US Navy vessel in the naval port of Lora outside the southern city of Split.
Relations between Croatia and the US are stronger than ever. Croatia's roles in NATO operations and its involvement in Afghanistan are important, Begich said in Lora.
