Komsic resigns from SDP BiH over conflict with Lagumdzija

SARAJEVO, March 20 (Hina) - Bosnian Presidency member Zeljko Komsic has resigned to all duties in the Social Democratic Party of Bosnia and Herzegovina (SDP BiH), local media in Bosnia said on Monday night, suggesting that the reason might be his conflict with party leader Zlatko Lagumdzija over his autocratic running of the party.

Federation TV (FTV), which is close to the SDP BiH, said the immediate motive for Komsic's resignation was Lagumdzija's recent visit to Belgrade during which he, as Bosnia's foreign minister, said he would support Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic's candidacy for president of the UN General Assembly.

Komsic has openly opposed the candidacy and took Lagumdzija's position as a "personal humiliation," FTV said.

Komsic was the SDP BiH vice president and a member of the party presidency. He was one of Lagumdzija's closest associates.

The media said that in his letter of resignation, Komsic said he would remain in the state Presidency, as he had had been elected by the citizens for that, although the SDP BiH has not officially confirmed.
