OTOCAC, Dec 21 (Hina) - Two elderly men from the village of
Podlapaca (UNPA South, about 100 km south of Karlovac) crossed over
to free Croatian territory at an UNPROFOR check point in Sajnarica
near Otocac (about 70 km southwest of Karlovac) on Tuesday.
Ten-year-old Danijel Ivanisevic also crossed over through
mediation of UNPROFOR and the Red Cross in Otocac. He had been
stranded in Licko Petrovo Selo since 1991, and his brother was
still there. Danijel was met by his parents, and would return to
his home in Lipovljani near Novska.
According to the two elderly refugees, about 1,100 Croats have
remained in Podlapaca and only 5 in Udbina. Most of them are
elderly people and about ten are in serious condition.
The Croats in Podlapaca are protected by the UN Czech Battalion,
and food supplies are provided by international humanitarian
organizations.
