ZAGREB, Dec. 1 (Hina) - Complete break out of all humanitarian efforts
in Bosnia-Herzegovina may take place very soon because of difficulties
in delivering fuel to that area, warned the World Health Organization
(WHO) representatives at press briefing in
Zagreb on Wednesday.
"Fuel provides heating for hospitals, and without it is impossible to
assure any kind of medical aid to patients. That is why we are appealing
for immediate free delivery of this essential component of humanitarian
aid", said a special WHO's envoy in Zagreb Hannu V. Vuori.
All three sides involved in the conflict in Bosnia think that fuel,
especially oil, can be used for other purposes, not only for
humanitarian, emphasized WHO representatives. That is the basic reason
for difficulties in getting permissions for delivering fuel necessary to
electricity generators and machines in hospitals and other institutions.
"For example, hospitals in the Zenica region need 7,000 tons of oil
weekly", said WHO representative from Zenica Lars Eric Frische.
According to his words, total quantity of power-supplies for Bosnia is
still not appraised.
The WHO is appealing to all the sides to show their political will for
solving this essential problem. They warn on another winter that is
threatening Bosnian civilians and this one "is going to be much worse
than the previous".
