HEAD OF OFFICE FOR NATIONAL SECURITY ON NEGOTIATIONS IN OSLO

ZAGREB, Nov 4 (Hina) - Head of the Office for National Security and Advisor to the President of the Republic of Croatia Hrvoje Sarinic told a Croatian TV show on Wednesday evening that the negotiations with the representatives of the local Serb authorities from UNPA's were not broken off and that the new meeting would possibly be held in two weeks'time. Hrvoje Sarinic, the head of the Croatian delegation at the negotiations with the representatives of the local Serb authorities from UNPA's in Oslo (Norway), said that the negotiating strategy of the Croatian delegation was based on the Peaceful Initiative of the Croatian President Franjo Tudjman. Sarinic said that UNPROFOR and the International Conference on the Former Yugoslavia presented a draft proposal which had already been discussed in Geneva in July and after that improved in Vienna in September. The both sides almost agreed on the proposal in Geneva and in Vienna also, especially military experts. "However, the Serb side put forth a new proposal which was unfortunately unacceptable for the Republic of Croatia," said Sarinic. The head of the Croatian delegation said that the talks also focused on issues on economy. Commenting on the statement by Co-Chairman of the Peace Conference Thorvald Stoltenberg, Sarinic said that peace in Croatia was only a precondition for halting the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina. He added that the Croatia's attitude was that the Croat-Serb relations were the "key" for resolution of all the problems on the territory of the former Yugoslavia. Sarinic reminded that Belgrade, and especially the Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic, exerted influence on the Serb negotiators. (END) ks 040816 MET nov 93
