CROATIAN SPECIAL ENVOY MEETS INTERNATIONAL MEDIATORS

GENEVA, Dec 15 (Hina) - The Croatian president's special envoy, Miomir Zuzul, today met the co-chairmen of the International Conference on the Former Yugoslavia, Thorvald Stoltenberg and David Owen, to discuss the implementation of the recently signed agreement on economic issues between the Croatian government and local Serb authorities in occupied areas. Zuzul said Croatia was gravely concerned that the December 2 agreement was not being implemented. He warned that this could force Croatia to refuse the extension of the UNPROFOR mandate unless the agreement was implemented by January 10 and negotiations on other economic issues and a political settlement continued. The latest statements by Serb officials in occupied Croatian territories proved they were against the peaceful reintegration of these areas into Croatia's constitutional and legal system, Zuzul stressed. He asked the co-chairmen to use their influence with Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic to exert pressure on breakaway Serb authorities in Croatia to begin with the implementation of the economic agreement and reintegration of the occupied areas. Zuzul said Croatia would continue to pursue a negotiated settlement and cooperate with the international community to that end but it would not tolerate the resolution of the crisis being procrastinated. Stoltenberg and Owen, who were travelling to Belgrade later today, said they would ask Milosevic to give clear support for the implementation of the agreement. (hina) jn vm 151845 MET dec 94
