SARAJEVO, Dec 14 (Hina) - The bitterest clashes in western Bosnia
were now raging around Velika Kladusa, UN Protection Force
Headquarters in Sarajevo said this afternoon.
Serbs from UNPA and troops loyal to Moslem separatist Fikret
Abdic had been trying for two days to surround completely the town
of Velika Kladusa and make the defenders surrender, UN military
observers reported today.
The major attacks targeted the Bosnian Army defence lines east
of Kladusa, in order to cut off the road to Cazin.
The Bosnian Army's Fifth Corps managed to repel most attacks.
A UNPROFOR spokesman, Jan-Dirk von Merveldt, confirmed that
Bihac had no water. He said the Bosnian Army had cut off water
supplies in fear of Serbs' poisoning the water pump.
The Bihac centre was hit by one shell today, UN military
observers reported. The shelling killed a four-year-old boy and
wounded two civilians.
The request for the air support to Bangladeshi peace keepers
issued by their commander following the Tuesday attack on a UN
armoured vehicle, was not sent to NATO from Sarajevo, Merveldt
said.
The Sarajevo UNPROFOR headquarters believed that such an air
action would be "pointless", Merveldt said.
