RIJEKA, Dec 2, (Hina)- Croatia's rail workers have called a general
strike for December 8, president of the Rail Workers strike
committee, Zlatko Pavletic announced today.
The strike is over poor work conditions, staff shortages, and
management cuts to security measures and their subsequent tendency
to blame workers when there is an accident.
Workers are also unhappy with the management's poor business
judgment and their failure to fulfill a Sept 1993 collective
agreement.
The rail workers said Croatian rail would function at a
minimum rate during the strike - but if any threats of pressure
were applied, work would cease altogether.
