NEW YORK, Dec 1 (Hina) - The UN Security Council is expected to
vote Friday on a draft resolution reaffirming that the transport
of goods across the borders of Yugoslavia (Serbia and Montenegro)
and Bosnia-Herzegovina, including the UN-protected areas of
Croatia, must be in compliance with Security Council resolutions
943 and 820.
The draft resolution would bring nothing new but reaffirm an
operative paragraph of resolution 820 saying that no goods,
except humanitarian aid supplies, can be brought into Croatia and
Bosnia-Herzegovina without clearance from their governments.
The draft was prompted by a report from the International
Conference on former Yugoslavia which said that every week 100 to
150 trucks delivered fuel to Serb-occupied areas in Croatia
without permission of the Croatian and Bosnian governments.
The draft resolution was sponsored by non-aligned countries
Rwanda, Oman, Djibouti, Pakistan and Nigeria. Croatian and
Bosnian diplomats also worked on it.
Unofficial sources said the strongest support came from New
Zealand while Russia was opposing it on the grounds that such a
resolution would not at this juncture contribute to the peace
process.
